Gary was introduced to Country
music at the tender age of 3 by his Dad, himself an avid Country fan,
and that was the start of a long & happy musical journey for
Gary. By 14 he was learning to play guitar and from those first,
nervous, hesitant attempts at basic chords he soon progressed to being
an accomplished player of lead guitars, acoustic playing, mandolin and
so on – and in fact when not actually performing live himself these
days he now teaches guitar, bass, drums and vocals to others as well as
running his own music workshop & school.
After playing with bands in rock, pop, blues, soul, and motown
Gary returned to his Country roots bursting onto the UK Country scene
with GREAT success in 2000 – playing mostly the popular USA Country
songs but also with a sprinkling of his own, self-penned songs – quite
a few of which are still getting airplay today.
Unfortunately, by the end of 2009, an overloaded work schedule and the
necessary mileage driven to manage that constant touring took its toll
on Gary’s health and he had no option but to take a ‘Time Out’ from it
all to recover full fitness once more, and for 3 years he did just that
– working purely locally and without the customary stress that goes
with touring.
Now, just 3 years later, he’s chomping at the bit again, happily
renewing friendships and old contacts, and this time he’s also going
very much down a Line & Western Dance route (while still willing
& able to do the more semi-Traditional Country shows that he used
to excel in) – his Dance programme is very comprehensive, incorporating
some of the classic line dances and a LOT of the very latest dance-hits
coming over from America.
With Gary the key-words are “flexible and versatile” and if you link
those with a voice that suits almost every style of Country song, plus
an extremely warm, friendly personality – especially with his audiences
– you will find a performer that stands out head and shoulders above
most of his contemporaries in this field. Try an evening’s
entertainment with Gary and you’ll see how true that certainly is.
